Purpose
The Shining Star Award honours a rising star under the age of 35 who demonstrates exceptional leadership potential and a strong commitment to advancing the future of potato farming in New Zealand. This award celebrates the achievements, passion, and vision of young professionals who are contributing to the success and innovation of the potato industry.
Eligibility
- Who Can Enter
Open to individuals under the age of 35 who are involved in potato farming or related to the potato industry in New Zealand.
- Membership
Nominees do not need to be members of Potatoes New Zealand, but they must be actively engaged in the potato industry, ie. an employee of a member.
- Timeline
The nominee should have demonstrated leadership and a commitment to the industry over the past two years.
- Geographic Scope
Nominees must be based in New Zealand.

- Submission Process
Nominations can be submitted online via the form at the bottom of this webpage.
- Who Can Nominate
Nominations can be submitted by members, trade members, associate members, colleagues, mentors, industry peers, or by the nominees themselves from the potato industry.
- Required Materials
- A clear description of the nominee’s contributions to the potato industry, highlighting leadership qualities, achievements, and future potential.
- Optional supporting info such as testimonials, case studies, or media coverage.
Decision
- Final Decision
- The judging panel’s decision is final, and no correspondence shall be entered in to.
- Winners will be announced and recognised at the award presentation during the Potatoes Conference.
