NEXT I’s of Potatoes meeting
Palmerston North

Potatoes New Zealand (PNZ) identifies younger people in the potato industry (generally under 40) to give them opportunities to meet together and discuss issues of interest.

We wish to engage not just with those in growing enterprises but with all younger folk who have an interest in the potato industry.

This is a crucial part of our Leadership & Training programme and fits with PNZ’s purpose of providing leadership in the areas of sustainability, industry profile and communication.

Why “I’s of Potatoes”?
PNZ’s values are to behave in a way that;

  • is INCLUVSIVE
  • provides INSPIRATION
  • demonstrates INTEGRITY

That is what we want to achieve with young people in the industry.

Potatoes New Zealand awards dinner

Sky City, Auckland, 19 November 2010

Heinz Watties, Plant and Food and Glenda Gourley were recognised at Potatoes New Zealand’s biennial Awards Dinner on Friday 19 November.

Held at Sky City in Auckland, the dinner was an opportunity for over 300 people from across the potato industry to celebrate the strength of the potato industry.

The awards were the highlight of the evening, recognising individuals and teams who have made a significant contribution to the potato industry. This year’s winners were:
  • Innovative Marketing Award 2010 — Heinz Watties product team, Frozen Steam n’Mash product
  • Research Award 2010 — Sustainable Production Systems Modelling team, Plant and Food Research, The Potato Calculator
  • Chairman’s Award 2010 — Glenda Gourley, for her tireless contribution to the industry
Terry Olsen, Chairman of Potatoes New Zealand, said all three recipients were proactive in advancing the industry and deserved the recognition from their peers.

A charity auction was also held, raising $13,555 for the Potatoes New Zealand Charitable Trust and Te Puna Whaiora Children’s Health Camps, which helps at-risk children.

The next awards dinner will be held in November 2012.
