Bake a potato campaign
Potatoes New Zealand's Bake a Potato campaign teaches Kiwi kids the most basic of cooking skills - how to bake a potato. And the great thing is it's a skill that you don't need a lot of equipment to teach, because potatoes can be baked at school, at home, in the backyard or even (wrapped in foil) on a camp fire in the back of beyond.
The Bake a Potato campaign is part of our Promotion Committee's wider aim to remind New Zealanders about the versatility of the delicious potato. This ultimately increases demand for our product and drives sales.
With the world facing an obesity crisis and fewer children being taught to cook, the Bake a Potato campaign does something tangible to help our children. A baked potato is not only quick and easy, it's also inexpensive, which is another plus in this tight economy. But more than that, the campaign teaches children and their parents about the nutritional value of potatoes, which are packed, in particular, with Vitamin C and fibre. Once you add healthy toppings, such as creamed corn or baked beans, a baked potato becomes a healthy and budget-stretching way to feed everyone in the family and whānau.
You can find more on our Bake a Potato campaign, along with nutritional information about potatoes and hints and ideas on how to prepare them on our consumer website www.potatoes.co.nz.
Complementing our potatoes promotions, Potatoes New Zealand also participates in the vegetable promotion strategy, which has a similar vision for vegetables. You can find out more about that work at www.vegetables.co.nz.
If you have any ideas for great campaigns we can get behind to encourage more New Zealanders to eat more potatoes, we'd love to hear them. Please contact Glenda Gourley.
