Seventh weekly update on psyllid traps for 2011
Status at 18 February 2011: TPP numbers in Pukekohe have remained at an average of 10/trap, although a second peak in numbers is still likely. In Waikato numbers of TPP are steadily increasing, tracking last year’s graph. Hawkes Bay TPP numbers have also levelled off at an average of 100/trap – numbers had been tracking last year’s graph closely and at this time last year the average was over 500/trap. We only have data from one site in Manawatu this week, but numbers are continuing to increase at that site at 23 TPP/trap. In North Canterbury numbers are still increasing and remain above last year’s averages. There was a slight decline in TPP numbers in mid-Canterbury, but numbers are also higher than last year. In South Canterbury TPP increased again, also above last year’s average.

Each week Potatoes New Zealand reports on the number of tomato potato psyllids (TPP) and other species of psyllids in the psyllid traps to help growers monitor and control for the potato tomato psyllid. Traps are localed in Pukekohe, Waikato, Hawkes Bay, Manawatu, North Canterbury, Mid Canterbury and South Canterbury. Numbers of tomato potato psyllids (TPP) and other species of psyllids are reported.
