Potatoes New Zealand in Indonesia
In October Potatoes New Zealand was represented at a United Nations workshop on seed potatoes held in Bandung, Indonesia. Ron Gall, Business Manager and Shaun Slattery, Export Market Development Coordinator attended the three-day workshop which discussed how the European standard for seed potato exports could be adopted in the Asia region. New Zealand will monitor how any changes adopted by Asian countries will operate, particularly if they have the potential to become trade barriers for New Zealand. Overall, New Zealand’s scheme compares well to other international schemes but some improvements were identified as a result of the workshop and discussions with other country representatives.
These will be reported back to the New Zealand Seed Certification Authority at its next meeting in February 2011.
