Ninth weekly update on psyllid traps for 2011
Status at 11 March 2011: Pukekohe numbers continued to increase again, towards what is believed to be a second generation peak. However it is worth noting that most of the psyllids are from a single site (the Pukekohe research station) with up to 500 psyllids on a trap, whereas most other sites have much lower numbers. Average numbers at Pukekohe are now higher than last year’s peak. Waikato numbers have remained low (data are for 2 weeks), not reaching a second peak as seen this time last year. Hawkes Bay numbers have continued to decline. TPP numbers in Manawatu have continued to increase, dominated by very high numbers at one site and very low numbers at the other. North Canterbury numbers are similar to previous weeks, and those in mid and south Canterbury have declined from previous weeks.
See most recent data tables and graphs.
Each week Potatoes New Zealand reports on the number of tomato potato psyllids (TPP) and other species of psyllids in the psyllid traps to help growers monitor and control for the potato tomato psyllid. Traps are localed in Pukekohe, Waikato, Hawkes Bay, Manawatu, North Canterbury, Mid Canterbury and South Canterbury. Numbers of tomato potato psyllids (TPP) and other species of psyllids are reported.
