Fifth weekly update on psyllid traps for 2011
Status at 4 February 2011: Graphs for TPP numbers now include a comparison with last season’s TPP numbers trapped in each district. TPP numbers in Pukekohe peaked at 55/trap in mid-January and have declined to 14/trap. This is about a month earlier than the first peak seen last season, so a further increase in numbers is likely. Waikato numbers remain low, but are starting to increase. Hawkes Bay numbers have tracked just below last season’s numbers, but have just started a rapid increase in numbers. Manawatu numbers have been well below the early peak seen in late Dec/Jan last season, but have been increasing steadily over recent weeks. In all areas of Canterbury TPP numbers are below numbers seen in most North Island locations, but are higher than those seen in Canterbury last year. In all areas this is the time for vigilance with monitoring and psyllid control programmes.
See most recent data tables and graphs.
Each week Potatoes New Zealand reports on the number of tomato potato psyllids (TPP) and other species of psyllids in the psyllid traps to help growers monitor and control for the potato tomato psyllid. Traps are localed in Pukekohe, Waikato, Hawkes Bay, Manawatu, North Canterbury, Mid Canterbury and South Canterbury. Numbers of tomato potato psyllids (TPP) and other species of psyllids are reported.
