170 people attend psyllid workshops
Last month Potatoes hosted US scientist John Trumble, Professor of Entomology at the University of California at Riverside. John made a series of four presentations in Ashburton, Palmerston North, Hawkes Bay and Pukekohe as well as meeting with Plant & Food scientists and visiting a number of growers on his travels. Around 170 growers and industry service providers attended these meetings.
The message was a fairly positive one, that growers in the US are learning to manage psyllids through more effective control programmes and scientists are beginning to understand the psyllid a lot better too. This suggests there might be some light at the end of the tunnel, but that there is still a lot of work to do.
